THE JUNIOR REDHAWKS: YANCHEP DISTRICTS JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB

The Yanchep Districts Junior Football Club (YDJFC) is located in the north metropolitan area of Perth. Established in 1993 as a free ball (Auskick) centre by Mr Graham Hailstones (Life Member), the club was originally known as Sun City Dolphins. As the club progressed through the years, our small country-styled community football club changed its name to Yanchep Districts Junior Football Club in 2000 and commonly became known as the Junior Redhawks.

The club is a not for profit organisation run entirely by volunteers and caters for children aged between 5 and 17 years of age.

We offer Auskick (Pre-Primary – Year 2), Junior / Modified Rules (Year 3 – Year 6), Youth / Open Rules (Year 7 – Year 12) and All Girls Competitions. We are open to anyone wanting to play Australian Rules Football in the spirit of junior sport.

Yanchep Districts Junior Football Club continues to grow and compete against other junior clubs within the West Perth District. In 2010, the club saw the Under 13 team win the club’s first Premiership flag and the Under 14 team with the Runner Up Premiership flag. In 2011, the Under 14 team once again won the Runner Up Premiership flag.

In 2012, the club had grown enough to allow for 8 teams to be registered for competition (Year 4 – Year 11) and had an estimated 80 Auskick players. This number has gone on to grow to 12 mixed teams, including 3 girls teams and over 130 Auskick players for the 2022 season. We look forward to an even bigger and brighter future for the club in 2024!

Our home ground is Splendid Park, Splendid Avenue, Yanchep.

OUR CLUB SONG

(To the tune of “The Ants Go Marching”)

The Red Hawks are on the ball again – again.
The Red Hawks are on the ball again – again.
We kick, we pass, we’re nothing but class,
We play the ball, we did the task!
The Yanchep Red Hawks are on the ball again.

It all starts here! Our youngest players (Auskick Pre-Primary) giving our Club Team song a red hot go at Gala Day 2022! They did so well!

coaching

Our coaches at YDJFC plan and lead training sessions with the aim of helping players improve at playing AFL. Our coaches help develop the skills, motivation and fitness of our players and teams, and they also organise and provide leadership for the team and volunteers in competitive matches.

To be a good football coach, you need to have good people, communication and leadership skills, as well as good organisational skills and attention to detail. You need to be personable, approachable and able to build relationships with your players.

If coaching Auskick, Junior or Youth AFL football is something you’d like to give a shot in 2024, or if you’d just like further information, please contact our coaching coordinator here.

GET INVOLVED

Volunteering enriches our lives in so many ways. It creates opportunities to learn more about footy, be active and get outdoors. It encourages us to engage and connect with our children, each other and our community.

Like any junior footy club, YDJFC relies on the generosity and commitment of our volunteers, both during and outside the footy season.
